One of the most troubling concerns with the LAPD is that of perpetuating racial stereotypes by means of interrogation, the manner by which all
members of a particular race become grouped together for the actions of a relative few. By casting a negative light toward being Black, Mexican, Asian or any number of
other ethnic races, Los Angeles law enforcement officers clearly demonstrate a great deal of ignorance and disrespect for that individual; just because someone is a member of a certain race
does not mean that he or she inherently represents any of the negative connotations associated with that. "Thats the trouble with those handy labels. They lead to stereotypical
thinking...or no thinking at all" (The National Association of Elementary School Principals, 1998). African-Americans and Latinos are victims of this sort of prejudice on a regular basis by being
systematically interrogated by the LAPD race (Knight, 1998). Enacting reform must start from the very top and trickle down to the very last
beat cop in order for there to be any improvement in how the LAPD approaches its racial inequity. One area in particular where the LAPD can make significant improvements
is in its harsh interrogation. Inasmuch as the art of police interrogations -- and it truly is an art -- requires much more than merely asking a question and
