by the human being, then of course there would be a lot less writing seminars making money. Mankind is surrounded by the works of great writers and all it takes,
one could say, is to take apart the book, layer by layer and examine it to see what makes it tick, what makes it draw the reader in, and what
ultimately makes the reader walk away changed in some way. One such work, for example, could be Roald Dahl and his short story, Lamb to the Slaughter. Lamb to the
Slaughter features Mary Maloney and her unhealthy obsession for her husband, Patrick. At the beginning of the story, Mary seems quite content, is pregnant with their first child and
has welcomed her police officer husband home from work. It is clear that she is a doting housewife, almost smothering to some extent. Then, Patrick tells her that he wants
a divorce. Stunned, Mary cannot believe what she has just heard. Numb, she goes to the kitchen to make them dinner. A frozen leg of lamb is sitting on the
countertop. Still reeling from Patricks announcement, Mary finds herself with the leg of lamb in her hand and without much contemplation knocks Patrick over the head with it. He is
dead instantly and Mary realizes what she has done. Not wanting her unborn child to suffer as a result of her crime,
