goes on to relay incidents pertinent to what was deemed the Longoria affair (Caro 74). That said, there are innuendos to suggest that Johnson is not about civil rights at
all. The article ends with many facts about how Lyndon Johnson in the end voted against civil rights bills (Caro 77). While the article provides a great deal of information
about the man, the center of attention is on a small incident that Johnson made right, but in doing so also provided proof of his Machiavellian tendencies. The Longoria affair
was something tied in with racism and related to Johnson. What happened exactly is that Private Felix Longoria died in combat and his body would eventually be sent to the
states; in the end, a local funeral parlor would not bury him because he was not white (Caro 65). When Johnson was just a Senator, he received a telegram about
the Longoria problem and decided he would make it right and allow Longoria to be buried in Arlington cemetery (Caro 65). The widow was grateful and Johnson, not wanting to
miss the opportunity to make this a political event called the press and made many statements (Caro 67). But soon, the owner of the funeral parlor claimed he never denied
Longoria the right to bury her husband there and some thought Johnson was simply an opportunist (Caro 67). The story goes on and on. Another situation was that the widow
began to date too early for his familys liking, and there had been friction for some time (Caro 68). What started out as a good deed ended up as negative
