19th century and in the second decade of the 20th century he truly entered the art field, experimenting with Cubism and Expressionism. "In 1918, he made his first collages and
in 1919 invented the term Merz, which he was to apply to all his creative activities: poetry as well as collage and constructions" (Kurt Schwitters, 2004). The following paper examines
his work and his influence or contributions in the creative world of art. Kurt Schwitters Following 1918 Schwitters continued to dabble in many different forms of art,
experimenting and creating new ways of envisioning art. In 1936 he participated in exhibits of "Cubism and Abstract Art and Fantastic Art, Dada, Surrealism...at the Museum of Modern Art, New
York" (Kurt Schwitters, 2004). A year later, however, the Nazis banned his work calling it degenerate art. He fled to Norway and it was there that he created a second
Merzbau. Later he setting in England where he began yet another Merzbau, but it was unfinished as Schwitters died in 1948. In understanding more of his work, as it
relates to the Merzbau he created, we look into what the Merzbau was and why it was such a creative use of his form of art. The Merabau were actually
"disparate pieces of collage and assemblages round the studio walls, which over time were connected by string, then wire, then wood, and finally plastered wood" (Cut and Paste: A History
of Photomontage, 2004). The development of these art pieces gradually required more space for the expansion of his ideas and he "cut a hole in the ceiling and gave notice
