Serbs and Albanians have a long history of discord. Primary to their dissention is that of Kosovo, Yugoslavia, a region that has been the site of much "disputed occupation
and government" (Anonymous, 1999, p. 20). Both parties claim to have rights to Kosovo; however, Serbian forces have been responsible for forcing the issue through violence and other indignities
toward the Albanians. Such undesirable behavior has been the focus of numerous NATO warnings, as well as the inevitable bombing of Serbian targets. Indeed, history has demonstrated that
there is "no place for them both" (Anonymous, 1999, p. 20) within the boundaries of Kosovo. At the center of all the hostilities in Kosovo lies the issue of freedom.
The Kosovo Albanians do not want to be forever joined at the hip with Serbia, but rather they desire their own independence. Being connected to Serbia has not
allowed the vast majority of the population to establish their own identity as a people -- that by being tied to Serbia, "the world is robbing them of their right
to self-determination" (Anonymous, 1999, p. 20). Historically the Serbs have always held Kosovo Albanians under their power from as far back as the Middle Ages; it was early in
the twentieth century when they successfully reconquered the Balkans, thus once again restricting the Albanians quest for freedom. "Many people are puzzled that the Serbs claim this land is
