THE FUNDAMENTAL BASIS OF KOREAN Korean is a significant part of many different countries where its linguistic presence is sometimes challenged and often difficult to accept outside of its own
homeland. The majority of global communities where Korean is spoken include American Samoa, Australia, Bahrain, Belize, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Republic of, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania,
Mongolia, New Zealand, North Korea, Northern Mariana Islands, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Suriname, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United States and Uzbekistan (Mason, 2002). Approximately seventy million people
speak Korean around the world; while the vast majority reside in the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula and its surrounding islands, no less than five million people speak it all
