an angry outspoken warning: the problem is real, its getting worse all the time, and if we dont do something about it soon, it will be too late: we will
have killed the planet that supports us. The disaster will not occur in our lifetime, probably, but our children and certainly our grandchildren will have to live with the dire
results of our greed, selfishness and stupidity. This paper discusses Kolberts book with regard to what its about, why she wrote it, and how she develops the main arguments she
makes. It uses the book itself as a source, but of equal if not greater value is an interview with Kolbert. Discussion Kolbert is angry, that much is immediately apparent.
She is impatient with the current Administration which still refuses to address climate change in any meaningful way. This is particularly egregious since the United States is the worlds largest
polluter and its largest energy user. It is, or should be, up to us to work for a solution to these problems rather than walking away and letting someone else
clean up our mess. Her message is simple: pretty soon it will be too late, so wake up! Kolbert is a journalist whose work appears in the New Yorker; this
book started out as a series of pieces she did for the magazine (Hayes, 2006). What gives Kolbert her authority is that she did not simply read a lot of
sources about global warming, or talk to scientists about it, instead she approached it as if she were a scientist, by going to areas affected by climate change and seeing
