Lakers, Kobe Bryant is, at the age of 23 (birthdate - 08/23/78), a sports superstar of the largest possible dimensions -- complete with several multi-million dollar homes, a multi-year-multi-million dollar
contract, a young and beautiful new wife, and a broad range of product endorsement agreements. He is also 67", weighs 210 pounds, and has some of the top statistics in
the NBA. A number of his accomplishments with the NBA are also unique to him. For example, when he was only 21, he had already become a two-time NBA All-Star
with the distinction that he was likely to become the best shooting guard in history the league. In the past year he has also shown that he is maturing
as a player. In his first couple of years with the Lakers he had developed a reputation for being something of a "hot dog" but sports commentators and fellow members
of the team have commented that they believe he has "matured" past that stage of his life. Thomsen (2002) writes: "He still bristles at accusations that he played selfishly last
season, saying he wanted to help the team but was too young to know how" (pp. 66). What has to be remembered is one simple fact -- Kobe Bryant is
still only 23 years old and, at age 23, very few people are truly clear about their lives! At least Bryant has the luxury to grow at his own pace.
By the way, according to information from his own website, his unusual name was taken from "a type of steak (Kobe) seen on a restaurant menu prior to his birth"
