Further, it can be concluded that adult learners do not appreciate being treated like children because of the reasons Knowles cites. The interesting, or perhaps, paradoxical fact is, however, is
that exceptionally good teachers of adults use many of the same instructional processes for adults that are used to teach children. Naturally, they are adapted for the audience but nonetheless,
there are a number of instructional practices that are equally successful with adults as they are with children. As Knowles points out, however, there are differences in the aspects of
each level learner which are explained in the assumptions he makes: 1. Adults have a greater degree of self-direction. This is certainly true
for all of us who have chosen to pursue further education. I have chosen my own course of study, my major, and my final goal. Unlike K-6 students who have
no choice in what they study and 7 - 12 students who have very limited choices, each higher education student determines their major and minor programs. It is true, however,
that after that decision has been made, specific courses are required; still, it is more self-directed. 2. Adults bring a history of knowledge
and experience to the higher education classroom which allows each of us to assimilate and accommodate new information in a more facile manner. This can act as a detriment also
because at this level, we may easily find that we have preconceptions that are not valid. We find that the older the student, the greater their experiential base which often
