Gallery is McCarricks mixed media work "Heart or Head" (2004). This surrealist depiction of a disembodied head over a partial torso was created using "paper, pencils, acrylics, elastomeric compound, oil
pastels and wax" which is 10" x 10" on a "Gallery wrapped canvas" (McCarrick, 2005). A raven rests on an armless shoulder just above a visible pink heart. The figure
is nude and female, with the body cut off just below her breasts. While the colors used are primarily green and blue, the effect is dark and foreboding, as these
are images that seem to originate deep in the subconscious. For the purposes of verisimilitude in aiding the student in writing a review, all works described are at the
Phoenix Gallery. If the writer/tutor interpreted maps on the Internet correctly, Sacramento is, hopefully, close to the students residence. "Judgement" (created with elastomeric compound and oil pastel on a gallery
wrapped canvas, 2004) is a stark contrast to the previous work as it is a study in black and white. A nude man is turned away from the viewers perspective,
and the work only shows the back of his head and his body down to just below the waist. Drawn in stark, bold lines, the body is realistic and
displays heavily muscled. The title implies that the man has made a "judgement" and, in so doing, has turned away. In the foreground, there is a bird-like white object that
