are. In many ways, the modern epics portrayed on the "big screen" serve as a means through which people view their world. For example, the series of stories that
made up Francis Ford Coppolas "Godfather" epic serve as an example of the ways in which the style and form of a movie is one of its most determining characteristics.
With the "Godfather" stories, an entire culture was supposedly represented and defined. Millions of movie goers came to believe they now had an insight to the world of Mafia families
and their ruthless social and economic behaviors. Because style and form have a direct impact on how subsequent movies are shaped and then seen by the audience, it is clear
that the "Godfather" series had to follow in the violent, passionate, and mercenary footsteps of the 1972 original. Interestingly, it was the first two movies -- "The Godfather" (1972) and
"The Godfather, II" (1974) -- are the most indicative of such a process. (The third part of the series, released in 1990 was a pale imitation of the original(s) but
