themes of Holy Scripture, which is that it is "God" who constitutes the "only (true) hero in the Bible (Corbett). The theological ramifications of Davids life primarily revolve around
the stark contrast that is evident between secular and religious issues. The Old Testament recounts how Jehovah caused the Hebrew people to be led out of Egypt in order to
establish a "new model" of human society among them (OBrien 16). The Bible makes clear that by remaining faithful to their covenant with God, the Hebrew nation would constitute a
unique and separate entity in the ancient world. In this new template for human governance, God and the law that was handed down via Moses to the people constituted the
basis for sovereignty. As this suggests, at this point in its history, Israel was ruled by its priestly class, as they were the interpreters of Gods will. However, I Samuel
8:5 indicates that the people asserted their longing to "be like the other nations" and have a king (NIV). The prophet Samuel tried to warn the people that rule
by a monarch entailed certain secular dangers, such as possibility that a king might become oppressive in his rule or lead the people away from the will and law of
God, but the people were insistent, and eventually Samuel consisted to anoint Saul as king; however, it was David who became Israels first "fully-fledged monarch," as it was David, as
