War. It is not a book that argues for either side of the war, nor is it a book that argues any clear thesis, but rather presents the reader with
a very real and personable look at what it might have meant for the players in the war. It speaks of the human aspects of being involved in war, while
also presenting valid information about warfare itself concerning weaponry and history. It is a very powerful book that could well make any reader, not previously interested in history, intrigued by
the Civil War. Killer Angels Without going into great detail about the three days that this book takes place, in relationship to Gettysburg, this novel is more about
the men and offers a personable look at the men, and the conditions of the battle. Anyone interested in the history of Gettysburg can easily locate a synopsis of the
battle and as such the battle described in the book will not be discussed. This is, after all, a novel and as such is focused on something different than the
historical battle, although it is possessed of facts and historical data. The book begins by illustrating some of the simple, yet very human aspects, of the players. In the foreward
the author notes, "the first troops of the Army of Northern Virginia, Robert E. Lee commanding...is an army of seventy thousand men. They are rebels and volunteers" (Shaara). They
are individuals that are generally not being paid for the role in the war, but are also possessed of a "remarkable unity, fighting for disunion" (Shaara). The author further goes
on to illustrate their almost legendary type existence as they seem to share a faith and that their faith in their leader is incredibly strong (Shaara). It is
