well as the laborers, construction workers, contractors and military associated employees. At the end of World War II, when Camp Hood, the forerunner of Fort Hood, was virtually abandoned, Killeen
suffered a severe recession; however, when Fort Hood was created as a permanent army base in 1950, the Texas town of Killeen boomed once again, and regularly increases in population
and its economy have occurred with regularity ever since. The following examination of Killeen offers a demographic overview of the town that describes its current economic transformation and expansion.
