this paper will discuss some of the more notable figures. Bibliography lists 9 sources. GETTYSBURG The turning point for the American Civil War was the Battle of Gettysburg,
one conflict of many that stood out as instrumental in eventually bringing the war to a close. However, this may not have been the case had Robert E. Lee
not assumed principal position during this, the bloodiest fight of the entire American Civil War. "Lee hoped an invasion would fuel the northern peace movement and, at least, disrupt
the Union war effort" (The Gettysburg Campaign PG). Robert E. Lee was both a shrewd and defiant military man. It can be argued that is influences upon the Civil
War were such that had he not been a primary participant in the battle, history would have recorded the ultimate outcome as having been significantly different.
