this reason this paper will consider what the three key ethical problems might be that are specific to the practice of marital and family therapy. The best therapeutic course in
family and marital psychotherapy may not always be what feels good in the moment to either the client or the therapist. The therapists decisions are not based on the
patients wishes or their expectations, and neither are they based on the therapists feelings of discomfort when accused of coldness or selfishness. Furthermore, they are not based on
the therapists feelings of pleasure when praised by the client. Emotions might inform the therapist as to the success or failure rate of his therapy, but emotions alone do
not determine what further action the therapist might need to take (Poppink 1999). Once a marital and family psychotherapist is educated, trained, tested and licensed, there are five essentials
