Eisenhower. In the autumn of 1959, President Eisenhower approved a proposal to get Castro out of office (Immerman & Theoharis, 2006). Of course, it would be some time until Kennedy
would ultimately decide that it was the right time. The goal was to oust Castro during the Bay of Pigs invasion, but of course, Castro remains in power to this
day. There is much controversy about Bay of Pigs and fingers point to Kennedy as having made bad decisions. But is this true? Was John F. Kennedy correct in
stopping the air force back up during the invasion at the Bay of Pigs? Indeed, it seems as if he gave the go-ahead, the mission would have been successful, but
he did not want to use air power. That is one controversy as it respects this mission that did not go well. According to a thesis provided by a student
"J F Kennedy was correct in stopping air force backup of the invasion at the Bay of Pigs; however, he should have stopped it when he became aware of the
scheme. He caused irreparable damage to the US reputation and world opinion of our country." The student suggests that the air support should never have been initiated in the
first place. What occurred was that there was a desperate "last-ditch effort to support the invasion" with a limited air strike (Sierra, 2007). This was not sufficient as a military
strategy. In effect, without complete air cover, the invading forces were not backed up, and they saw this as a betrayal by the United States (Sierra, 2007). In terms of
