objective concerning herself. In order to determine the state of mind of Miss Brill, one must carefully examine this work. When examining
"Miss Brill," one finds that the attitude of the protagonist is quite na?ve concerning life and she is not objective about herself. The attitudes in this story are an
interesting concept, for they are both positive and negative. Miss Brill is old, yet she does not have a clue that she is an old person. In this
tale, Miss Brill discusses her Sunday outing in great detail. It is the very best part of her week, each and every week. She discusses the old people
and the young people she encounters. When discussing the old people she encounters, Miss Brill refers to them as "old." One gets the sense in the beginning that
she is also old, but Miss Brill does not think of herslef as an old person. She is one of the many players in the play of life each
Sunday. She wears an out of date fur necklet each Sunday in the special seasons. In the first part of the play, she is only an observer.
At the end of the play, she quickly and quietly becomes one of the "watched." She goes from thinking most of the others are old, to, because of a
conversation she overhears, realizing that she is also old. This is very disheartening and sad to her. As long as she thought of herself as young, Miss Brill
was filled with life and she enjoyed her outings. In fact, she did not suspect that she was old, until someone made her realize the fact by making fun
