the infamous Daniel Boone, was a woman who is generally known for her short stories, although she did write one novel that made her rich (Books and Writers, 2005). This
book was "The Ship of Fools" written in 1962 (Books and Writers, 2005). In many ways Porter was quite an enigma of her time, siding with communism and then becoming
a friend of a Nazi leader (Biblion, 2005). She was a woman who wrote about the injustices done to native peoples, and a writer who went through many different stages.
The following paper examines her life and her work. Katherine Anne Porter Katherine Anne Porter was born in 1890 in Indian Creek, Texas. She grew up in Texas
as well as Louisiana (Books and Writers, 2005). When Katherine was 2 years of age her mother died and she was then raised by her grandmother (Books and Writers, 2005).
Another author indicates that the grandmother died in 1901 wherein Katherine and her father lived in a rented apartment and Katherine helped support them through dancing and acting (Katherine Anne
Porter, 2005). Her education was obtained at convent schools and when she was 16 she ran away (Books and Writers, 2005). This is also when she married her first
