forefathers would have envisioned. Todays religious fundamentalism, from all faiths, has elicited an often tangible anger that can be felt and heard. And yet, it was this very
fundamentalism that was responsible for the birth of the worlds major religions in the first place, which highlights an evident dichotomy. But the dichotomy is only on the surface
maintains Armstrong, who contends that it is fundamentalism that is fueling many of our current world crises. According to Armstrong, in
the face of growing technology many of these fundamentalist groups have multiplied and grown in strength and are desperate to have their message heard. As a result, their tactics
have taken on a definitively more desperate tone as well, as evidenced by the Oklahoma City bombing and the more recent tragedy of September 11th. The radical fundamentalists contend,
says Armstrong, that based upon religious precedents it is imperative that certain ideologies be introduced and imposed upon the world, and many groups are willing to go to literally any
length to accomplish that mission. Consider a man willing to be a suicide bomber because he believes in the notion that his mission pleases God. This is religious
radicalism and there is no way of rationally communicating our way out of entanglements with those having this mindset. However, the
main point that Armstrong strives to relay in this compelling book is the necessity of understanding among all people. We live in a society where we are being compelled
