judges, but rather the imagination (476). Thus, taste is not logical (476). Here, a student writing on this subject must understand that Kant differentiates judgment utilizing the mind and
all its facets with an inner kind of judgment that is made, not with the mind, but with other faculties. Thus, one cannot look at a painting and say that
a particular work of art is better than another because it is more accurate. Indeed, paintings are not judged by accuracy. While to some extent, in some genres, figures should
be recognizable and drawn to scale, but not necessarily all the time. Drawing an accurate representation may be something that elicits admiration, but it is certainly not synonymous with beauty.
Thus, Kant describes what some deem as indescribable. Yet, it is important. The reason why the concept of defining how beauty is derived
is important is because it seems to matter to society. Funding for the arts is a hot political issue. The question as to what is art often comes up. Can
the medium, or materials used-be it urine or elephant dung which modern artists have been known to play with-make a difference as to whether something is art? Accuracy again, is
not an issue. If it were, cubism would have been folly. Kants antimony of taste, or his critique on the beautiful, is worth studying. Kants account of fine art, or
the beauty of works of art, is possible due to the capacity of humans to use something other than their critical minds to judge. He explains as follows: "Here the
