shoppers have felt the same way as Kudler now operates three stores in the San Diego area. Yvonne Reynolds, director of store
operations has requested that a monthly newsletter with coupons be generated, which requires a system that identifies promotional products by the purchasing manager, automatically generates coupon information (such as quantity,
cost and expiration date) and that provides reporting about coupon usage and related product sales. There is some literature that can be referred
to as it pertains to Internet-based coupons. Cheng and Dogan (2008) point out, for example, that a mass distribution of coupons without a specific customer-centric information system to go along
with it is likely doomed to failure. As such, Kudler needs to distribute Internet coupons (via newsletters) to specific, targeted customers who are more likely to respond to such promotions
(Cheng and Dogan, 2008). This will prevent customer backlash (Cheng and Dogan, 2008). Kudler can put together this system with the agreement of
its customers. Customers can be queried at checkout if they would like to be in the system in which they can receive money-saving coupons on a monthly basis. If customers
are okay with this, the cashier can take their name and e-mail information. If not, then nothing more needs to be done. There
is also an opportunity for customers to sign on to the newsletter e-mailing by visiting Kudlers website, In this particular instance, customers can be given choices to check describing what
