to fill a perceived need in the marketplace for gourmet food items under one roof. These days, Kudler operates stores in La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas.
In the area of operations and purchasing, there really is no formal purchasing department in any of the stores, though standard purchasing procedures do
exist. Basically, each of the stores department managers determine requirements and products they need, and place purchase orders directly with suppliers using a standard order form. These store managers (and
their department managers) are also responsible for receiving and verifying all orders. Then received items are documented on an Order Received form, and sent to accounting for processing.
Prepared purchase order forms are mailed, handed to supplier sales staff or sent via e-mail to suppliers. The purchase order form is initially
filled out, and then becomes the key tracking device for the order. To further add to the confusion, Kathy Kudler also
places orders, but her orders focus mainly on unique, capital or repair items required by an individual store, or items used by all three stores.
This is not an effective way for Kudler to operate its purchasing system. The company has the Internet and its likely most of its suppliers have
access to the Internet as well. Given almost every business has this technology these days, there is absolutely no reason why Kudler Fine Foods cant streamline its purchasing processes via
