Fine Foods mission is to offer a store with the freshest ingredients and products for the gourmet cook, at reasonable prices and with the convenience of one-stop shopping.
Before launch, however, it would be a good idea to have a plan that explains the markets needs, size and demographics, as well as
the product itself. Market Needs Kathy Kudler wants to launch her first store in the San Diego area (more specifically, La Jolla) because
she views a demand for gourmet goods and tools that are conveniently located and reasonably priced. Lets examine some of the characteristics of this market to determine if, indeed, Kathy
Kudler is on track with her thinking. The typical gourmet cook is female, between the ages of 21 and 60, and has a
family. She is also likely to be highly educated, owns her own home and in a higher income bracket. Population and housing estimate in the San Diego region point out
that the population stands at 3.2 million individuals, and there are approximately 2.9 people per household (Population and Housing Estimates, 2010). Out of 1.1 million housing units, approximately 560,669 are
single-family homes (Population and Housing Estimates, 2010). The highest percentage of household income resides among those earning between $15,000 to $44,999 a year (Population and Housing Estimates, 2010).
The entire female population in San Diego county is 1.6 million - the largest number are between the ages of 20 and 54 (Population and
