of marketing what she currently has. As such, shell need a marketing strategy to help her out. And to help that marketing strategy, shell need a marketing research program.
What, exactly, is marketing research? Marketing research is the method by which facts and data are collected so managers and others can make intelligent,
and important, marketing decisions (Marketing research, 2011). The American Marketing Association (AMA) notes that marketing research "links the consumer, customer and public
to the marketer through information" and the information, in turn, is used by the marketer to find and take advantage of opportunities (Marketing Research, 2004).
But marketing research involves more than slipping a bunch of surveys into envelopes and mailing them to likely individuals. The marketing research process involves 1) defining the problem;
2) determining a research design; 3) identifying data types/sources; 4) designing data collection forms and other methods; 5) determining the sample; 6) collecting the data and 7) analyzing and interpreting
