that Kudler Fine Foods develop a system that can track customer purchase through a Frequent Shopper Program. The goal of this program is to award loyalty points for redemption to shoppers. For Kudler, the idea behind this program is to track individual customers purchases. Customer purchases are tracked, and the customer, in turn, accumulates loyalty points for redemption of gift items, specialty foods and other products or services. But there is more to building a e-commerce loyalty program than simply throwing up something on the Internet in an effort to start tracking purchases. This type of thing is not cheap; it requires the issuances of cards or another tracking device, it requires a database that can track shopper preference and it requires a way for customers to redeem their loyalty points for gifts, products and services. Furthermore, there is the issue of privacy and security. The last thing any Kudler customer wants to fear is that his/her information might be hacked into and taken over for nefarious purposes. Legal, ethical and security considerations Loyalty systems are great for vendors such as Kudler, in that it allows the company to collect customer-specific data that can be used for a variety of products. But on the down side of things, customers might also fear an invasion of privacy (Enzmann and Schneider, 2005).
