facilitator does something, while another theory expounds upon the fact that the learner needs to find his own way while learning. Still other theories point out methods by which learners
can best learn; role play, lecturing, and so on. Out of all of these theories, however, Kolbs Experiential Learning Theory does the
best job of being adaptable to students learning styles and helping them to link learning in the classroom (or lecture hall or conference room) to whats going on in the
real world. This is because experiential learning does what it says - it takes experiences and allows the learner to, well, learn from them. Literature Review
What, exactly, is experiential learning? Originated and introduced by David A. Kolb in the early 1980s through his book "Experiential Learning: Experience as the Source of
Learning and Development," this particular theory pointed out that learning is more of a process, with knowledge, and education, obtained through experience (Experiential Learning). Kolb wasnt exactly the first to
come out with the theory that experience makes more of an impact than book learning (John Dewey and Kurt Levin had already introduced that concept). But Kolb was able to
adapt learning into a process, into a never-ending cycle that focused on concrete experience as its starting point. Through Kolbs theory, the learner
first has the experience, the translates that experience, through reflections, into abstract concepts, which then allows the learner to take those concepts and test them out, thereby creating new experiences
(Experiential Learning). The diagram demonstrates the idea of the experiential theory, with new situations creating new experiences, which creates new reflections and concepts.
