that occurred in 1998 is now looked back on as a "warning sign" that worse things were to come. Though terrorism
is certainly rife in Kenya, this nation suffers from more problems than fanatics blowing up embassies (though this is bad enough). Because of years of a corrupt regime, poverty reigns

Kenya, which is located in the Eastern African region, is an independent republic that is on the Indian Ocean coast (MBendi.com, 2003; see also World Almanac and Book
of Facts, 2004). The capital city of Kenya is Nairobi, with other major towns including Nakuru and Kisumu as well as the port of Mombasa (MBendi.com, 2003).
Though English is the official language of this nation, the lingua franca is Kiswahili, with Bantu languages comprising more than 60 percent of the population
(MBendi.com, 2003). As of 1999, the population of Kenya was approximately 30.37 million, with a very low life expectancy due to AIDS
(Fact-Index.com, 1999). The age structure breaks out in the following chart (source: Fact-Index.com, 1999) Age Percentage of Population Male Female 0-14 43 6,566,424 6,419,034 15-64 54 8,284,719 8,238,121 65
