A 7 page discussion of our failure as a society to find an adequate address for juvenile crime. While juvenile courts are often perceived as a slap on the wrist, they characteristically fail to provide for the basic Constitutional rights that a juvenile is entitled to and often even deal out harsher sentences than adult court. Both juvenile court and adult court are ineffective in addressing the problems of juvenile crime. Alternatives must be identified. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

committed crimes has perplexed criminologists, sociologists, psychologists and society in general for decades. Juveniles account for a tremendous percentage, if not the majority, of violent crimes committed in this
country. The incidents of multiple school shootings which have broken out across the nation coupled with the number of one on one crimes of juvenile to juvenile or juvenile
to adult, in particular, have both shocked and revolted us. As a consequence there has been a growing tendency within our criminal justice system to try juveniles who
commit such atrocities as adults. There is considerable debate, however, regarding the effectiveness of such a tactic. There are certainly major differences between juvenile court and adult court
that must be considered when deciding on the effectiveness of this approach. The juvenile court system offers some benefits for the youthful offender but it also goes hand in
hand with some disadvantages. Growing juvenile crime and our inability to deal with that trend is of obvious concern to Americans who must
learn to manage these children despite the fact that they actually fear them. Unfortunately, juvenile crime is anything but likely to disappear in the next few decades. A
full exploration of the issues is thus critical to allowing us to turn around our juvenile justice system before it is too late to do so. As crimes seem
to become more and more violent there is a greater and greater propensity for trying juveniles that commit those crimes in the adult court system as opposed to the juvenile
