by and large, the waters of justice are muddy. In essence, it is not always clear what is a just or noble cause or what actions are moral. For example,
today, some people feel justified in killing doctors who perform abortions. To the majority, such is a reprehensible act. Still, killing has sometimes been done for a seemingly just cause.
In fact, people are executed in the nation due to the heinous crimes they commit and these are viewed as justified. Capital punishment has been embraced by many cultures and
wars are fought for just causes as well. To that end, a story comes from Germany that tells a tale of a nobleman and an ordinary citizen who become involved
in a transaction which results in the deaths of others. In an old tale about revenge and justice, Kleist writes about a horse trader who is wronged. The traders
way of resolving the issue leads to much controversy and discussion in this story named Michael Kohlhaas after the protagonist. A tale of anger and vengeance is woven, but beneath
the surface is the authors claim that the work is really about justice after all. In the story, Kohlhaas is just a law abiding citizen. He is a horse trader
and is targeted by the government much in the same way a citizen of the United States may be harassed by the police without an obvious cause. The protagonist feels
as if an injustice is committed and it is his position in society-not his deeds-that get him into trouble. It is important to note that many would think the thematic
element to loom large is vengeance. After all, it seems that that Kohlhaas does get revenge. But that is only a part of the story. In fact, early on, the
