Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This is a 4 page paper discussing the basis for justice in which people are treated differently. The basic principle of justice which was first formulated by Aristotle states that “equals should be treated equally and unequals unequally”. In terms of contemporary justice, this is similarly defined as “individuals should be treated the same, unless they differ in ways that are relevant to the situation in which they are involved”. There are several ways to look at justice. Firstly, most people understand that idea that justice means that “everybody should be treated the same”. Secondly, however, there are instances where justice can also apply in situations in which some people are treated differently. Situations in which people accept that justice has been served yet people are treated differently are usually based on circumstances in which need, desert, contribution and effort are the criteria.

treat others unequally yet people accept these actions. People generally accept when people favor their own children over others in private and public situations and they are not deemed as
unjust. In a similar sense, people believe it is fair when those ahead of them in a theater line get their ticket first. Also, most people believe it is fair
when the government provides social and financial assistance to those people who are not able to provide their own care (Markkula, 2003). There are also several situations which exist in
which individuals who make larger contributions to projects also reap the larger benefits or acclimation and people generally do not feel that an injustice has occurred. These are situations in
which people are treated differently from others yet people do not generally deem these actions as unjust. Generally, it is believed that when using the criteria "need, desert, contribution, and
effort, we acknowledge as justifying differential treatment, then, are numerous" (Markkula, 2003). Instances in the work force are those the most controversial in regards to what treatment is considered just
