most logical ways to start an analysis is to determine the authors credentials and bias, especially on a "hot button" issue like gun control. The article mentions only Wilsons teaching
positions, but some additional research reveals that he served in Ronald Reagans administration and that he is a solid conservative. We can then make a generalization, meaning that its not
necessarily true of everyone in this group ("conservatives") but has become associated with them: we would expect Wilson to be an opponent of gun control and indeed he is. Wilson
argues that the problem is not gun owners in general, but the illegal use of guns that presents difficulties. His thesis is that the aim of any gun legislation should
be not to disarm law abiding citizens, but to "reduce the number of people who carry guns illegally" (Wilson 120). His evidence for allowing the wide-spread purchase of guns

that incidents in which people have shot members of their family by mistake are overstated. First of all, Wilson doesnt define precisely what a "household survey" is, leaving the reader
to guess at Klecks methodology. It is probable that Kleck surveyed subjects by phone, or perhaps he sent questionnaires, there is no way to tell. Its also impossible to determine
the validity of the survey because Wilson doesnt say how any people were surveyed; if the number is too small, then the survey is not statistically valid. Heres the entire
