for the Allies. The story It has been claimed that the real nature of any event, is not that found in a history text, but rather from the memories and
stories of the people who were in it. Morris Austein , was the American staff sergeant for 42 men in a demolition squad given the mission to "destroy all
obstacles hindering the advancement of troops up the beach and into the French countryside." Austein said, "The sky was so full of planes you couldnt see the sky anymore.
Bombers were hitting the coast. We all had things on our mind like the enemy and what we would run in to. There were thousands of troops alongside each other
going onto the beach. On the shoreline itself there were land mines. Germans put them down and if you stepped on one, you blew up. I lost 5 men that
