in history his life speaks of a struggle for unity in the midst of turmoil. There can really be no way to actually know who Julius Caesar was but each
person can arrive at their own assessment and understanding of the man based on historical information. The following paper examines and interprets the character of Julius Caesar. Julius
Caesar When looking at the earlier years of Caesar it is noted that he ultimately stayed out of politics and became a lawyer.1
When he went off to further his education he was captured by pirates and they demanded a ransom wherein he argued they should ask for double because he was an
aristocrat and he told them he would kill them.2 He made good his promise.3 To begin with this sets the stage for assuming that Caesar was something of an arrogant
man. He presumed his importance, and was perhaps a self centered man. He soon engaged in activities that would lead him to
be a hero and put in the world of politics. When there, however, he commenced to become "responsible for bread and circuses. He organized great games, making sure that the
Roman mob would remember his name."4 Again, this gives the impression of an arrogant man, especially when one understands that he became bankrupt from putting on such games.5 He got
