Human beings are inherently curious and if they can explore something they surely will. This is a powerful theme in the novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth"
by Jules Verne. The following paper examines the inherent curiosity of humans as presented in this particular novel through one particular character, the Professor. Curiosity The entire
premise of this particular novel, one that focuses on journeying to the center of the earth, is one that clearly speaks of an innate curiosity to know, to discover, to
find answers. And this journey begins when the Professor is troubled by particular runes which he must decipher. He is curious and he knows that uncovering their meaning can lead
to a great adventure which is only fueled by curiosity. We see his curious nation in the following: "Undoubtedly it is Runic, said the Professor, bending his brows; but there
is a secret in it, and I mean to discover the key" (Verne Chapter III). He is consumed by this task that will lead to great adventure and more
discoveries because he is curious. He refers to some alchemists of the past, indicating the inherent nature of humanity in relationship to curiosity and discovery, stating, that these alchemists "were
the real and only savants of their time. They made discoveries at which we are astonished" (Verne Chapter III). He is in awe of those who were curious and discovered
