by the parenting provided by Mary and Joseph, within the context of Jewish culture (Miller, 2006). Christianity shares the emphasis that Judaism places on the family. However, Jesus takes this
family value and transforms it, as throughout his ministry, Jesus stressed the same feelings of loyalty and love that one shows family are meant by God to be shown to
all of humanity (Miller, 2006). As Amy-Hill Levine, professor at Vanderbilt University points out, Jesus extended family values to the entire community (Miller, 2006). Essentially, the moral values of
Christianity grew from the soil provided by Judaism, as Jesus stated in Matthew 5:17, "Do not think I have come to abolish the Law of the Prophets, I have not
come to abolish them but to fulfill them" (New International Version). As Jesus indicated, his teachings can be seen as extensions of Judaic values and teachings, fulfilling the prophecies, rather
than replacing them. Consequently, to this day, the two religions share the same moral values in many respects. For example, both Judaism and Christianity view it as morally justice and
ethically necessary to offer the right of sanctuary to individuals who are fleeing political oppression (Voice of America, 2009). The way in which jurisprudence developed in Western Christian nations
can also be traced to Judaic influences. For instance, in The Ground is Holy, Ignatius Bau indicates that God instructed Moses to build 48 cities, which were intended for the
Levitical tribe and six of these cities served sanctuary for anyone who had inadvertently killed another person (Voice of America, 2009). The presence of these cities meant that they would
