Essay / Research Paper Abstract
4 pages in length. The research question for this study is whether or not there exists ethnic disparity when it comes to meeting the needs for alcoholism, drug abuse and mental health care. The authors' hypothesis, which is based upon results from prior findings on the subject, supports the clearly stated research question by not only seeking to determine if there is ethnic disparity but also to what extent it does, in fact, exist. As such, the hypothesis implies there to be no question as to the existence of ethnic disparity but rather how measurable it is. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

The independent variables consisted of psychiatric disorder, substance abuse problems, ethnic identification and demographic statistics such as age, family income, gender and marital status, while the dependent variables included access
to outpatient care, satisfaction of overall care and types of treatment. Here is where the student will determine the levels of independent variables, as well as how the dependent
variables are operationally defined. No issues of concern regarding design or measurements. Sample selection was varied; timing and method both within the perimeters of this study; and validity/reliability of
measures verified by previous data used for analysis. The concept of reliability deals with whether or not the instrument can measure the same trait consistently upon repeated measurements, while
validity deals with whether the instrument is truly measuring the specific trait that it is supposed to measure. When an established, reputable measuring device is used, there is less
need for the student to discuss the reliability and accuracy of the instruments. Statistical methods used to examine the research questions/hypothesis included analyzed data from a national survey by the
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation called Healthcare for Communities. This qualitative approach provided telephone interviews with random sample respondents. Qualitative research begins with intent to review a certain area;
the researcher then collects data through observations and interviews and generates his or her ideas and hypotheses from these data. These inferences are largely made through what is known
