the development of the new nation. One of those men was Josiah Bartlett. He was one of the many men who signed the Declaration of Independence and if only for
that reason is one of the founding fathers of the nation. He was one of those men who was considered to be "a staunch patriot" and thus important in the

Despite his importance in history he is, even in his home state of New Hampshire, "largely unsung, despite the fact that he was for several years its representative
at the Continental Congress and played a decisive part in the remarkably peaceful transition from royal to republican administration in that state" (Eastman; Eastman, 2008). He was a man who
"voted for independence, and was the first to sign the Declaration, after John Hancock" (LeftJustified Publiks, 2008). However, it is not necessarily just enough to claim his importance in history,
as is the case with many other unsung people from history. One must see, and understand, exactly how Josiah was important, despite his lack of recognition.
Josiah Bartlett was born in 1729 in Massachusetts (Goodrich, 1856; 131). In relationship to his education it appears that in his early years his education was
