her and her influence on England. Josephine and England Josephine was born on an island, in Martinique, in 1763 (About the
Lady, 2007). She was born into poverty and was born into less than the perfect society, surely not a world of manners and French style, or as one author notes,
"she was raised far from Paris and the courtly schools for girls of distinction. Although she was very sweet tempered and kind, her stance and mannerisms evoked life in plantation
America rather than the noble social circles of Paris" (About the Lady, 2007). She found herself in an arranged marriage of sorts
and gave birth to two children. This marriage only lasted a few years and she ultimately found herself a prisoner in a convent while her husband rose to power and
then was executed during the Revolution. At this point she was victim to a patriarchal society wherein she basically hooked herself up, or tried to connect herself, with men who
had power and money. It was then that she met and soon married Napoleon Bonaparte, a man who fell madly in love with her. It was also Napoleon who decided
her name should be Josephine, rather than Rose, which is what everyone called her. While Napoleon attempted to take over England, with
the help of the Spanish, Josephine essentially remained out of political affairs. And, being somewhat confined to her little world in France she had little choice or freedom. Her husband
