was a woman who fought for the rights of women to have an education and her work seemed to focus on many of the underprivileged and impoverished women who would
find themselves in the harshest of realities, not the least of which involved young women, children, who were sold into prostitution. The following paper examines his work regarding child
prostitution. Josephine Butler and Child Prostitution On author notes that "In 1885 Butler joined together with Florence Booth of the Salvation
Army and W. T. Stead, the editor of the Pall Mall Gazette, to expose what had become known as the white slave traffic" (Spartacus, 2009). Prior to this she had
been fighting and researching issues concerning contagious diseases that were sexually transmitted, a focus that ultimately uncovered some truths she desired exposed.
Another person that Butler became involved with was Rebecca Jarrett. Interestingly enough, Jarrett was a "former brothel manager" (The Christian Institute, 2002). She came from a very troubled family and
was actually put into prostitution at the age of 12 by her mother (The Christian Institute, 2002). She left home a few years later and while living with lovers also
ran brothels (The Christian Institute, 2002). "Her speciality was procuring young girls to work in brothels. Rebecca knew all about buying girls for a few pounds from their parents or
abducting them from public parks" (The Christian Institute, 2002). And, because of this she became a very powerful witness for many prostitutes as she learned to understand the horrors of
