a fervent Kikuyu tribal nationalist who transformed himself into a twentieth-century Renaissance man. After receiving a Western education in economics and anthropology, Kenyatta returned to his homeland, dedicated to
liberating Kenya from what he and his countrymen regarded as the unwelcome intrusion of British colonialism on their culture and customs. After leading an uprising known as the Mau
Mau Movement, Kenyatta was imprisoned and subsequently exiled to a desolate corner of Kenya, before eventually becoming Prime Minister and eventually the African states first President from 1964 until his
death in August 1978. In his landmark text, Facing Mount Kenya, co-authored with professor of anthropology, Bronislaw Malinowski, Jomo Kenyatta enlightened the so-called civilized world about a portion of
the dark continent, that of his land and his people, the Kikuyu. Though separate concepts in Western minds, Kenyattas insightful text reveals that in the hearts of his compatriots,
