The primary advantages of going national with two of the three largest grocery chains in the country is that Joint Juice would gain: * Uniformity in outlets * A measure of exclusivity * Frequent access to a large number of customers * Legitimacy by being sold by either or both retailers * Greater advertising efficiency in local areas and regions a. Does Joint Juice know enough to go national? Does it have the right people and the right organization? The Joint Juice company technically does not know enough to go national in that it does not know customers outside of the local area and does not know how the product will be accepted outside of the San Francisco area. The company does know, however, that its knowledge is thin and needs to be increased. Even though it lacks much of the information it would like to have and could use to its advantage, the realization of its lack of knowledge in itself becomes a leading advantage over those that may believe that good information can substitute for good effort. b. Can the company grow while continuing to experiment and learn? Or must it lock in its strategy? Certainly the company can grow while experimenting and learning; otherwise there would be little reason to seek to experiment and learn. There is no reason that the company should lock in any strategy before coming to know and understand the various market segments it will be selling to as a national product.
