and organized clubs in college to try something new, including a new set of peers and ideas. At the same time, college offers new entrance to numerous less formal groups
made up of friends who share common interests that may develop in the classroom or out. Sometimes ultimate goals are at odds with one another within an informal group, but
this is not criteria for joining. The one thing that is true of each type of group is that members must approve of each member and each group has its
own psychology and social makeup. It is most likely more difficult to join the more bureaucratic fraternal and organized groups because of these factors. In either case, each group has
to be approached differently. The student might to state something along the lines of: The benefit of expanding an overall view of life is
a desire that begins to present itself in high school that accompanies the anticipation of leaving the old neighborhood and joining a larger world. In this environment, it is easier
to suspend certain ideals, explore personal goals and gain a greater sense of community beyond an individuals religious and ethnic community. This is the process of enlightenment that college offers.
Therefore, many students plan on joining a club or fraternal organization in college. The perceived advantage is that no one at college
knows the students past and will not judge him or her by it. However, for nearly all clubs and organized fraternal organizations, the student must prove his or her right
