relationship to his predecessor George Washington. He was a fairly common man, content to remain a private and simple man, but found himself in politics and in the seat of
the President of the United States. David McCullough has written a biography of John Adams and the following paper provides a report and reaction to this book. John Adams
McCullough begins his story of John Adams by describing a snowy evening with two men traveling. One of the men is a talker, John Adams. McCullough states, "John Adams was
a lawyer and a farmer...he was forty years old and a revolutionary" (McCullough, 2002; 18). McCullough further describes him as an incredibly honest man and man with a deep love
farming and nature. He was a man who considered his wife to be his best and truest friend, and he was incredibly devoted to her. He was, on all accounts,
a very noble and honorable man who loved his life, his family, and his friends. We also note that he was not a man who did well in public
situations. He was not a charmer, could not dance well and did not play cards well. He was, in essence, something of a private man who did not desire fame
but rather simple happiness. But, he was a man of vision and determination as well. He was an excellent lawyer and began to make a name for himself as such,
being deemed "sensible and forcible" (McCullough, 2002; 20). And, with the Revolution at hand he was not a man who could stand by and do nothing but watch, something even
his wife did not expect from him. She was apparently as passionate about the revolutionary cause as her husband. Much of the book details the relationship these two had,
