and some sort of psychological fulfillment as opposed to just being able to make a living. While supporting ones self is important, satisfaction is also relevant. What are the factors
which affect job satisfaction? Do structural variables such as job status, societal values, and pay affect job satisfaction? In order to answer these perplexing questions, a study is in
order. The thesis of this paper is that the named factors above do in fact affect satisfaction. Yet, a study should find out exactly how this is the case. Does
an overall societal expectation play a role? Does impressing ones girlfriend have anything to do with satisfaction? Certainly status is important, but why? Is it the actual power one has
at the workplace, the way in which one can show off to others within the industry or in personal life, or is it a satisfaction of accomplishment? How does pay
enter the picture? A trend today is to give job titles without adequate remuneration. Is pay or status more significant or are the two so interrelated that a promotion can
be an illusion of a higher status rather than an actual change? The purpose of the proposed study is to seek answers to these questions and find out just what
does provide job satisfaction. It is also important to reflect on how such a study would produce knowledge and what influence management might have in the public arena.
