the workforce there has been a decision to redesign the way patient delivery takes place. This includes the concept of a universal worker, able to undertake many support service, as
well as other jobs requiring redesign. There are different ways in which jobs may be redesigned. The undertaking of job design or redesign will involve assessing what needs to
be done, by whom, how and where. The starting point will be to assess the different tasks and activities which need to be performed in the delivery of patient care
processes, as the care will be made up of many different tasks. The way that the processes take place is likely to include input from a number of different employees,
with this assessment used as the basis for job redesign. There are two schools of thought in the way jobs design takes place; the first has a focus on
efficiency, the second has its focus in the behavioural school with an emphasis on motivation and employee satisfaction. There are four approaches to the way that the job design may
take place, this may include increasing specialization, this is aligned to scientific management and sees increased breakdown of tasks, with individuals performing more of a smaller part of each task,
to increase efficiency, this is an approach that is linked to the efficiency approach. The remaining three approaches are linked to the behavioural and the redesign can be undertaken
by looking to job enlargement, where the individual employees have a large portions the task to load, with a process of horizontal loading taking place. The rotation is seen where
