the human resource departments of America. But what they often overlook is what they say during a job interview can make or break the entire process. Sometimes, a candidate will
be on a third or fourth interview, and believe that he or she has nailed a job only to find out that there are no more calls. Another candidate was
selected. To make it that far in the interviewing process may signify some deficit in interviewing skills. After all, if a candidate is qualified and references checked, but an offer
is not made, there may be something that goes awry during the actual physical interview. What are some important aspects of successful employment interviewing? Everyone who goes through the
interview process should master the techniques of displaying confidence, asking the right questions and making sure to stay on topic. Fist, displaying confidence is essential because someone will want to
convey that they are able to do the job in question. Stein (2002) explains that "competencies and personal traits as "a desire to succeed," "ability to handle rejection," and "self-confidence"
may actually be of more value to the employer than traditional skills like numerical ability or formal education" (26). An employer will be more interested in a candidate who has
enough self-confidence in the position to actually do well than someone who had done well in school but does not really know how to steer himself through inevitable changes.
