Gift of Teaching and the Gift of Exhortation. They use the first as they teach others to succeed and the second is used to encourage, advise and reinforce. They may
use the Law of Communication. This Law of leadership requires the leader to have excellent communication skills, which the mentoring leader has. To mentor anyone means the leader will discuss
things like the vision, goals, possible actions, problem solving and more. The leader must be able to communicate clearly and directly so the one being mentored understands the lesson.
The mentoring leader may have a phlegmatic temperament. This means the person is usually happy and is calm in the face of danger. She is not easily flustered, is dependable
and practical. This temperament typically helps the individual become a natural peacemaker. The individual with the phlegmatic temperament might also be slow and lazy, stubborn, stuck in her own ways,
and may strongly resist change. The Leader Skills Training organization1 wrote that the mentoring leader typically has a great deal of confidence, they are goal-oriented, they are relational, they
are disciplined and they are able to see the Gestalt, the big picture.2 They know what they want to accomplish and even know how long it should take. She also
cultivates good relationships with the team.3 Jesus is the perfect example of a mentoring leader, which is a strange thing to say since Jesus is Perfect in every way.
