amazing ceramic pieces - large and small. Whether it is a delicate tea cup or an ancient warrior designed to guard an emperor, the amount of work may only
be influenced by the number of people who live within the country. The ceramic content of Asia is long and varied. The Artist and Her Work
Jeongmee Lee is a modern Korean ceramic artist who honors the traditions of her homeland, but has chosen to reflect a more primitive
part of her past or invent figurative work which represents her own world. It is a world which she appears to know thoroughly.
Her sculptural pieces appear to be inscribed, or incised with overlapping circles, as though showing us unique maps to Jeongmee Lees world. These
textural markings may remind one of European crop circles or the guarding designs at Newgrange, or are they reminiscent of Australian facial tattoos, or the slightly meandering rings of a
cut tree. It is probably the use of the circle itself which leads to such wide and universal possibilities.
The overall height of the pieces cannot be determined if they are viewed in a singular manner. There are no reference points which allow us to relate the
size of these sculptures to something we already know. If the object is unfamiliar, and one views it without a reference point, the art piece can have any imagined
height. These pieces could be the same height as the artist herself, they could be gigantic - although technically they might proved difficult to balance, that could be overcome,
