purpose of this paper is to present a theory integrated case study and a theory analysis using the framework of Jean Watsons Theory of Human Caring. The Theory of Human
Caring was developed by Jean Watson while she was engaged in her profession of teaching at the University of Colorado. It is a combination of Ms. Watsons personal view
of nursing, and her experiences in her doctoral studies in educational-clinical and social psychology. The concept was to bring meaning and focus to the professional of nursing as an emerging,
distinct health discipline. CASE ANALYSIS The subject of the case analysis is a seventy-five year old female patient that has been residing in a local nursing home for the
past four years. . For the purpose of this discussion, the patient will be given the name Mary. Until her husband passed away approximately one year ago, he
also lived at the nursing home with Mary. When Marys husband first died, she became very depressed. She was so depressed that she refused to allow anyone to assist
her in any manner - even to get out of bed or to reposition her while she was in bed. As a result, she developed two Stage III ulcers
on her buttocks. However, Marys depression has subsided somewhat and now she is accepting help. The ulcers are being treated and they are in the process of healing.
Depending on her health on any particular day, Mary can be classified as bed-fast, but on other days she is fairly ambulatory. She is able to feed
herself. On the days when she is able to get around by herself, she has to be monitored, as she has been known to leave the dining area before completely
